KARIN
LUVAAS
“I LIKE rocks and I take a lot of walks,” says
jewelry designer Karin Luvaas, who lives and
works in picturesque Bainbridge Island, Wash.
It’s little wonder then that her colorful stoneand-silver Rocks & Rivers collection feels
so tranquil. Working with found stones,
the designer creates using time-honored
techniques including inlay, intarsia (like a
mosaic, but made from solid pieces), and
kintsugi (mending, not hiding, breaks),
and keeps her environmental impact “as
low as possible, because honoring the
material means respecting the planet it
came from.” (karinluvaas.com)
