EWELRY LOVERS KNOW that West 47th
Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, is New
York City’s Diamond District. But in the past
few years, a 1-mile-plus stretch of Madison
Avenue has quietly morphed into NYC’s
unofficial Luxury Jewelry District. Of course, there’s
great jewelry all over Manhattan. But there’s no beating
the carats-per-block ratio on the Upper East Side.
Here’s our (by no means exhaustive) list of Madison
Avenue jewelry outposts—plus two famous Madisonadjacent stores no jewelry shopper should miss.
1. TIFFANY & CO.
Great for: Celeb
staples such as the
industrial-inspired
gold HardWear
collection, shapely
Elsa Peretti art
jewelry, and (of
course) engagement
rings. The 10-floor
Landmark store
is packed with
priceless paintings
and sculptures. And
thanks to Daniel
Boulud’s Blue Box
Café, you can even
have breakfast
at Tiffany’s.
(727 Fifth Ave.)

2. BERGDORF
GOODMAN
Great for: Just
about anything.
The BG Jewelry
Salon is a high-glam
collection of dozens
of brands—some of
which you can’t find
anywhere else in
NYC, or the rest of
the country. It’s the
only U.S. stockist for
Mellerio, whose Baby
Color Queen bracelet
is pictured here, a
14-generation French
family jeweler dating
back to 1613.
(754 Fifth Ave.)
3. MARINA B
Great for: Bold,
sculptural, yellow
gold snake-esque
pieces, plus some
of the juiciest
cabochon-cut
colored stones you’ll
ever see. All 18k gold,
all the time.
(673 Madison Ave.)

4. VAN CLEEF &
ARPELS
Great for: Those
Alhambra earrings
and chains you see
everywhere. Pro tip:
Don’t sleep on the
Zodiaque necklace,
which recalls VCA’s
1970s designs and
incorporates such
offbeat stones as
sodalite, obsidian,
and pietersite.
(690 Madison Ave.)
5. GRAFF
Great for: Diamonds,
diamonds, and—oh,
yes—diamonds, from
everyday jewels like
the sweet Tilda’s
Bow pieces (a brand
signature) to redcarpet styles straight
from Paris Couture
Week.
(710 Madison Ave.)
6. BOUCHERON
Great for: Diamondstudded peacock
feather–themed
jewels (the Plume
de Paon motif is a
Hollywood favorite);
playful animal pieces
(Wladimir the Cat is
Boucheron’s most
popular bedazzled
beast). The boutique
is a love letter to all
things art deco.
(747 Madison Ave.)
